PRESIDENTS 2022 REPORT
2022 has been another successful year for the Blackfriars Old Scholars Football Club.
Our Womens team continued on from their 2021 premiership season and moved up to Division 2. They finished minor premiers but ran into opposition who were just better on the day in both the Semi Final and the Preliminary Final. Congratulations to Locky Sandford and his coaching group on another successful season and we wish him all the best as he continues as Womens coach in 2023. Letisha Ackland won the Catherine Mulvihill Division 2 Best and Fairest medal and Ruth Wallace won the Division 2 Leading Goal Kicker Award. Outstanding achievements. Kym Holliday and Suzanne Holliday became the first players to play 50 womens games at BOSFC. Our Mens teams coaches took the opportunity to step up to Division 5 when West Croydon and Trinity Old Scholars turned down the opportunity to take their place in that division in 2022. The A grade won enough games to secure a place in Division 5 for the club in 2023, the C grade missed out on a finals spot and the B grade played 2 finals, winning the first against Elizabeth and losing the second to eventual grand final team Hectorville. To Jarrad O’Riley (A grade Coach), John Belton, (B Grade Coach) and Sam Burridge (C Grade Coach), congratulations on season 2022 and thank you to your and your extended coaching group for all the work you have done this year. Jarrad and Sam will continue coaching their respective teams in 2023, while John Belton will be taking a break from coaching at BOSFC after 203 games across 11 years. Three players who played in BOSFC’s first season back in 2006 passed significant game milestones this year – Adrian Porcaro and Travis Hillman played their 200th game for the club and Shaun Curtis became the 2nd player in our 17 years to play 250 club games. To the club committee - Tom Zed, Juliet Sandison, Daniel Booth, Tony Harford, Dave Nelson, Jon Harmer, Jess Rokkas, Bonnie Sandison, Aimee van der Hulst (Womens Captain) and Matt Brincat (Mens A Grade Captain) – thank you for the work you have done during 2022 to ensure the smooth running of our club and coordination of game day volunteers and matches. The club ran two significant game days in 2022 where all 4 teams played at home. Ladies Day supporting the Mary Potter Foundation in early June and First Nations Round in early July. Thankyou to everyone who supported these two events. As a club we were able to contribute around $2,000 to the Mary Potter Foundation as a result of Ladies Day activities and fundraising. Jess Rokkas and Bonnie Sandison did a significant amount of work behind the scenes to coordinate these two special games days as well as running the Cocktail Night and Best and Fairest events. Thank you to Beck Neophytou who coordinated the canteen for mens and womens home games this year. Thankyou to Juliet Sandison for running the canteen at womens home games. Thank you to Tony Harford ran the 100/100 raffle and Juliet Sandison who organised our Bunnings BBQ’s this season, two important fundraising activities. To everyone else who volunteered their time this year in any capacity, thankyou for being a part of BOSFC. |
